Customers

Shopify customers become Odoo contacts, with their addresses. Each Shopify customer and each address is linked to its contact once; after that, the link (not the email) finds it at every import.

How a customer finds its contact

  1. The link: a customer imported before finds the contact it is linked to.
  2. The email: a new customer finds the Odoo contact with the same email.
  3. Nothing found: a contact is created.

Addresses are recognised by place: an address already known is not created twice, even with another label.

Orders and customers

Orders never change a contact. When an order comes with an address the customer does not have yet, the address is added to the customer, whatever the settings below.

Customer settings

Open the store, click Configuration, then Customers.

Setting What it does
Update Existing Customers On: imports write the Shopify changes on existing contacts; which values (name, email, phone, addresses, note): the customer rows of Field Mappings. Off: existing contacts are only linked, never changed.
Company-Specific Customers On: customers created from this store belong to its company only. Off: they are shared by all companies.
Create Company Customers On: a customer with a company name becomes a contact of that company. Off: the company name is kept as text on the customer.
Salesperson, Sales Team, Customer Tags Given to the customers created from this store.
Import Shopify Tags The Shopify tags of a customer become contact tags in Odoo (missing tags are created).
Large Import From Above this number of customers, Import Customers runs in the background in batches (Bulk Imports).

Customer data

If customers arrive without name, email or address, the Shopify app lacks access to protected customer data: see Create the Shopify app.

Import Customers

  1. Perform Operation › Import Customers.
  2. Choose From Date, To Date and Date Based On (Updated Date or Created Date).
  3. Click Execute.

One customer: Perform Operation › Import Specific Customer with its ID, the number at the end of the customer's address in Shopify admin.

Do you need to import customers?

Not always: order import creates the customer of each order. Import customers when you want all of them in Odoo, e.g. for marketing or before the first orders.

Store Customers

Shopify › Sales › Customers lists the store customers and their addresses with the Odoo contact each one is linked to. If a customer was linked to the wrong contact, change its Odoo Contact: the next imports use the new link.
